Robots As Teachers??

Yesterday after Reading we had a fantastic debate about whether we would want to be taught by Robots! Robot teachers you say??!! It's not as futuristic as it sounds. Watch this video to see what we mean...

Thanks to JR who gave us the link to ASIMO, which is a robot that has been developed by Honda. Pretty amazing stuff!

So, do you think you would like to have a robot teacher? Leave a comment telling us what you think and why? Don't forget to justify your answer!

Wunderpants by Paul Jennings

"I had to stay in the middle of the creek in the nude..."

Our predictions for the next part of the story are...
* He could wait til everyone goes past. Puts on his pants and then runs to the end and wins the race. -AC
* He will still have all the powers and strengths of the wunderpants. - SW
* Everyone will come past and laugh at him - SH & AS
* Everyone will come past, through rocks and sticks and laugh at him. - CH
* He will stay in the water and wait til everyone goes then put everything back on. - SA

What do you think will happen next?

Inquiry

For Inquiry this term we are looking at changes in nature including New Zealand and Auckland's changing landscape.

This is Room 25's understanding of changes in nature...
We have two that are worded differently which one do you like? Is there anything we could add or change?

*When different or unusual things happen over time we get new plants, a new environment and a new landscape.

*When something unusual happens we get new plants, a new environment and a new landscape over time.

Daydream Believer

By John Stewart

Oh, I could hide 'neath the wings
Of the bluebird as she sings.
The six o'clock alarm would never ring.
But it rings and I rise,
Wipe the sleep out of my eyes.
My shavin' razor's cold and it stings.

Cheer up, Sleepy Jean.
Oh, what can it mean.
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen.

You once thought of me
As a white knight on a steed.
Now you know how happy I can be.
Oh, and our good times start and end
Without dollar one to spend.
But how much, baby, do we really need.

Cheer up, Sleepy Jean.
Oh, what can it mean.
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen.
Cheer up, Sleepy Jean.
Oh, what can it mean.
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen.

[Instrumental interlude]

Cheer up, Sleepy Jean.
Oh, what can it mean.
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen.
[Repeat and fade]

NZ Music # 3 - Scribe - Dreaming

This is a great video from Scribe that talks about not giving up on your dreams. Setting goals for yourself and working hard to make them succeed. Also that it is important to have people around you who believe in you and will help you reach your goals!

Here is the first verse and chorus...

Check it out,1,2,hey yo,hey yo

I came a long way since back in the day
From a teenager trying to make a rap in this way
Ever since I was a kid I had something to say
Rocking mics was a dream I didn't care about pay
I sacrificed late nights and going out with my friends
Just to stay home alone with my pad and my pen
Had my eyes on my prize,my mind on my goal
As I carved these rhymes out with my heart and my soul
I didn't have a CD; all I had was a tape
on the dole thru my flow was my only escape
From a world where they didn't wanna see me prevail
Didn't wanna see me take it all
They'd rather see me fail

It's like...

[Chorus]
I was down and out
struggling
wondered how I'm gonna make it thru
I got a dream (I got a dream)
Holding on (I'm gonna hold on)
I can't let go cos you gotta make it come true

NZ Music # 2 - Herbs

Carrying on from the theme of looking at how music shares messages is a classic NZ song from The Herbs. It is called French Letter and it is a song that was written about nuclear testing.

The French wanted to test their Nuclear bombs around NZ in a place called Morurua in the 1970s and 80s. In 1985 a greenpeace boat called the 'Rainbow Warrior' that went to protest against the French nuclear testing was bombed in Auckland Harbour killing 1 person who was aboard, all the others managed to escape. On 28 January 1996 then-President Jacques Chirac said the French military would not conduct any more nuclear tests - Wikipedia.

This song is shared the dislike that many NZers had towards Nuclear testing happening around them. The lyrics are underneath.

Lyrics:
Lyrics from Muzic.Net.Nz
Can you see yourself, under a coconut tree
Wanting for nothing, or maybe a cooler breeze
Where all things romantic, in the south pacific
And the only peace is the spit on a feast, your feast yeah

Do you know what makes the ocean glow
Do you know what makes the ocean glow
When unwelcome guests, are making nuclear tests
are making nuclear tests, are making nuclear tests,
are making nuclear tests

Oh yes, no nukes hah ahhhhhhh
Nuclear mis energy, nuclear, nuclear, free yo yo yo yo yo

Is there nothing at all who can appease your greed,
Could you please leave the air we breath
Why is it something we’ve done
You all seem to forget
About nuclear fallout and the long term effects

Is there anything gained when you hide the plane
Anything gained when you hide the plane
Let me be more specific, get out of the pacific
Ki te la pacific, get out of the pacific
Ki te la pacific

Oh yes, no nukes hah ahhhhhhh
Nuclear mis energy, nuclear, nuclear,
Nuclear free yeah
Nuclear free yeah
Nuclear free yeah

Nuclear free yeah
Nuclear free yeah
Nuclear free yeah

Nuclear free yeah
Nuclear free yeah
Nuclear free yeah

Nuclear free yeah
